SAFE Families
We are so excited to announce a new initiative at Grace for 2017 called SAFE Families. SAFE Families connects families here in the city of Clarksville who are going through crisis with a family at Grace who can provide a safe place for the children of the family in need. Safe Families hosts vulnerable children by creating extended-family–like supports for desperate families through a community of devoted volunteers who are motivated by faith to keep children safe and to reunite families.
Under current economic conditions, many families experience financial crisis, unemployment, and homelessness. Often these situations result in, or are made worse by, other hardships such as parental violence, drug or alcohol use, physical or mental illness, or incarceration. In these situations, parents or guardians may be incapable of providing a safe and caring environment for their children, putting them at risk of abuse and neglect. We can step in to help families in crisis by caring for their children for short periods of time.
We know God has called us to care for orphans and we feel this is one way we can tangibly do that. So, what does that mean for you? It means we want you to prayerfully consider what your role can be through the SAFE Families program at Grace. Maybe you’re willing to be a host home and have children stay with you who need a safe place to stay, maybe you’re retired and you could help one of our host families transport a child to school, or maybe you could be someone to help stock a host home with the supplies needed to care for the child staying with them. Whatever the case may be, we’re asking each of you to consider what you can do to engage in SAFE Families this year at Grace.
